RES operational dispatcher
Profession will appear after 2025
Trends
The increase in the share of electricity generated by wind generators and solar panels increases the need for balancing capacities, because the production of these types of energy directly depends on weather and climatic factors: the presence of wind, daytime, etc. the situation is complicated by the fact that it is difficult to predict how much energy will be generated even with favorable climatic factors (on a cloudy day, less energy will be generated, and strong wind blowing in the other direction, reduce the efficiency of the wind turbine facing the other way). To ensure the energy balance, it is necessary to clearly know how much energy consumers will need. The more detailed this forecast is (for example, on a certain day at certain hours an additional light will be turned on due to cloudy weather), the more efficient the use of balancing capacities will be. The RES operational dispatcher uses predictive models (AI) to assess the likelihood of favorable weather conditions to generate electricity from solar and wind power plants. In fact, he predicts weather conditions for planning and assessing the generation of electricity by renewable energy substations. This will significantly improve the integration of renewable energy sources into the energy system, since understanding the volume of energy production will allow traditional generating stations to plan their energy production taking into account the forecast fluctuations of RES.
The novelty of the profession: solving new problems: forecasting energy consumption.
Key competencies:
- Knowledge of the patterns of development of weather conditions in the near and middle horizon (up to 30 days)
- Knowledge of the patterns of energy consumption by the population and enterprises in the face of changing weather conditions.
- Analysis of the current weather conditions (2-3 days) and modeling the development of weather conditions affecting the generation of renewable energy in the horizon of 30 days.
- Calculation of the imbalance between the available and required balancing capacities to be planned for conventional generating stations.
Note: It should be noted that the experts emphasized that this profession is characterized by monotony and requires the skills of endurance and the ability to long-term concentration. Therefore, we noted that this profession may be interesting / preferable for women, because takes into account their gender characteristics.
